A Lifelong Passion for Art

I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. I created my first portrait at the age of 12, but my love for art began even earlier. After the tragic loss of my brother at a young age, I found myself drawn to portraiture as a way to honour and capture the essence of the people and animals I cherished.

Inspired by Nature and Place

I grew up in Africa and travelled to the UK regularly to visit my family. This gave me a strong affinity for wildlife and natural landscapes, which has remained central to my work. I studied Fine Art at university, but spent much of my professional career as an Interior Designer — commissioning and guiding others to create the visions I held clearly in my own mind. Combining my love for Interior Design and my talent for Art is an ideal fit that allows me to celebrate both Africa and the UK.

A New Beginning in the UK

While still running my Interior Design business in Africa, my sister in the UK was diagnosed with a terminal illness. I made the decision to relocate, leaving behind the pace and pressure of my previous life. In this quieter space, I returned fully to art — and during the 2020 lockdowns, I launched my art professionally.

Bringing My World into Yours

Combining my love for art, fabric for the home with meaningful design, it felt completely natural to create a retail range. Each piece is a reflection of the places, people, and animals that have shaped me — brought to life for like-minded homes that appreciate authenticity and warmth.

Collaborative Support

work independently, but I’m grateful for the creative input of my sister-in-law, an experienced Interior Designer, and my brother, a talented Graphic Designer based in the United States. Their perspectives help shape the wider vision of Sonia Hayes Art.
